The third module is Business Building. This is a really interesting and content rich couple of weeks and there are lots of cool things to learn and explore around the topic. I have experience with business and marketing, but marketing myself is a different story altogether!
When you have a ‘traditional’ idea or a business model, it is fairly easy to believe in its validity, particularly if its a tried and true method. It’s been done before and people have been successful and the product is something people want or need. We have a restaurant and no one questions the validity of that, or the fact that people want to eat. And neither do we! Because we know we put out a good product and we know that people want to eat! So, all of that makes it somewhat easy to believe it will be successful (although anyone who has a hospitality business will know that its alot more work than that!).
Coaching however, is not simply an idea or product… its me. I’m selling me, my knowledge and my talents and abilities….. SCARY!!!!
Do I have what it takes? Do I have enough knowledge? Can I convey the knowledge I do have? Do people want to hear it? (actually I’ve learned in biz building that they don’t!) Can I really help someone? Who am I to say I can help them? What do I really have to offer anyway?!!! And when will I have to stop ‘working on myself’?!!! (I’m guessing a big fat Never for this one!)
Mmmh, Yawn…. what’s more interesting than delving to the bottom of that barrel… avoiding it of course and diving into the online world and figuring out how to ‘get’ clients instead!
So the online world of websites, opt-ins, list building, youtubing, free product offers, creating products, e-courses, social media etc etc was actually pretty fun for a while! Until I started to feel really disconnected from what coaching is all about and disconnected from actually coaching people. I mean I don’t just want emails on a list!! I want to connect with people and co-create different possibilities and access potential and enjoy the fun of discovery that comes with all of that.
And then I saw this Abraham quote
“It’s not your work to make anything happen. It’s your work to dream it and let it happen. Law of Attraction will make it happen. In your joy, you create something, and then you maintain your vibrational harmony with it, and the Universe must find a way to bring it about. That’s the promise of Law of Attraction.”
What a reminder for me! When I am connected to the joy and fun of coaching then I do believe in myself. When I am clear on my vision I believe in its possibility.
I realise that my business building ‘efforts’ are going nowhere until I connect to and build on my vision and ultimately on my belief in myself.
And how can I have that vision and belief if I don’t know what I am really about… what message do I want to be part of?
In Module 1 we were taught to identify who are ideal client is and how we want to serve them. The further along the course I go its abundantly clear just how valuable figuring this out from the get go is! How about I just following the advise of the teachers?!!
So, over half-way through the course and it’s time for me to back-track to class 3 and actually do my homework!!
